I ended up really liking in Skyward Sword how Link and Zelda were friends from the start. From that, I had a what-if idea of the two being war buddies in a Victorian-inspired era, with Zelda (of course) being higher in rank. I may have thought up a full-out fiction of this concept in my head as well.
